NM UFO/Paranormal Forum is proud to present a person who knows the ghostly ways of a famous New Mexico Hotel. Sharyl and Rebecca will be our speaker for our Sept. 20th meeting @ the Manzano Mesa Multi-generational Center @ 1:15 to 2:50 ---Room 5
Sharyl Stockstill is a life-long resident of Mountainair, New Mexico and grew up under the shadows of the Shaffer Hotel and Dining Room and has had many personal encounters with the ghosts who live there. Her first encounter was in the 70’s when her mother tried to open the hotel. Sharyl was 12 and saw an apparition she believed to be Ma Shaffer in one of the upstairs hallways. Thus began her love of both history and of the lost souls of the Shaffer Hotel and Dining Room.
After moving to Mountainair, New Mexico in 1908, Clem “Pop” Shaffer built the Shaffer Hotel in 1923. The Shaffer Hotel is a registered National Historical site and one of the few examples of Pueblo-Deco architecture still in existence today. Additionally, the Shaffer Hotel And Dining Room has become known as a supernatural hot-spot and tourist attraction. In fact, it has been said that “Pop” Shaffer himself still roams the halls.
Recently, the Shaffer Hotel as been refreshed with contemporary accommodations while preserving its old fashioned elegance and historical importance. The Shaffer Hotel features 19 rooms ranging from a simple “cowboy” room (that shares a spacious community bath) to our elegant wedding suite with two elegant claw-foot bathtubs and a wet bar. Additional options include double-suites for families and there are plenty of standard rooms with private bathrooms. All hotel rooms are furnished with antique furniture from its era. Guests are invited to enjoy our large outdoor park crowned with an Art Deco Gazebo, fire pit and covered patio.
Additionally, the Shaffer Hotel features an 80-seat convention room that easily accommodates any event as well as offers free internet services to guests
